After you win, return to Gareth who is still at his family house. Finish the battle and you'll get a journal update to Burying the Past. When you fight him, you will also trigger a giant battle as part of the On The Ropes quest. If you agreed to kill Jonathan, you can find him in the Black Pits. Once in there, confront him with the truth and he will tell you to kill Jonathan, or else he will. While in the house, you need to unlock the front door so Gareth can get inside. You can also find Jonathan's Gloves just outside the house, by going to the right of the main door and into the grass. Once in there, use Spirit Vision to speak to Gareth's parents and learn the truth. 
You must either convince the Paladins to move, or you can teleport inside the house. If you select the HERO option when it appears, you can end the entire quest line now. Alternatively, there is one dialogue option where you can tell him to give up his revenge quest. He will ask you for help in discovering who murdered his parents. He will be furious that his parents are dead. You can find Gareth again outside a house just a short walk North-East of the cemetery. Decide whether to spare or kill the magister. Far to the North of Driftwood you will find a small house with Gareth in it. Burying the Past is one of the many Quests found in Divinity: Original Sin 2.
